Cabbage Soup Diet
This diet lasts
for 7 days. You make a big batch of home made cabbage soup and
each day you eat as much of it as you want. This is supplemented by certain foods each day. The recipe varies slightly, but basically includes a variety of low-calorie vegetables such as cabbage, onions and tomatoes, flavored with bouillon, onion soup mix and tomato juice. Each day of the seven-day program has specific foods that must be eaten, including potatoes, fruit juice, many vegetables, and on one day, beef.
Pro:
You'll lose weight quickly and can eat as much as you want of the prescribed foods.
Con:
The critics of this diet say that this is mainly
a crash diet whose weight loss is
mainly from water loss. According to them, cabbage has no fat-burning powers. Some dieters complain of gas, nausea, and light-headedness on
this diet.
The diet is too low in complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals to continue for an extended period of time.
Crash diets increase
the risk of blood pressure problems, coronary heart disease, and can disturb
the natural metabolic set point so that it interferes with the distribution of
body fat. The body actually experiences malnutrition. Some people experience
tiredness, lack of energy and water retention. You may also feel light-headed and weak, and notice a decrease in ability to concentrate.
